| Sujet: Celebrating Église Saint Sulpice Mar 17 Avr 2012 - 11:11 | |
| Week of April 16, 2012
Celebrating Église Saint Sulpice …this Parisian church enjoyed the world’s largest musical instrument when its mighty 100-stop Cavaillé-Coll pipe organ was inaugurated 150 years ago, on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1862.
1862 Cavaillé-Coll organ at Église Saint-Sulpice, Paris
Audio Interview: Daniel Roth has some interesting things to say about the instrument upon which he plays, created in 1862 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, the foremost organ builder in France. Roth plays at St. Sulpice. Hear his comments, in conversation with Michael Barone: Listen Playing in the shadows of Widor and Dupre. Listen Dealing with the physical realities of what, with 100 stops and 5 manual keyboards, was the world's largest pipe organ back in 1862. Listen Coordinating with a choir at a distance of over 100 yards when playing music for two organs and singers. Listen Describing the classical heart of this most impressive, and massive, representative of the French symphonic-romantic organ tradition.
